LIST PICK

PYNCH DISCO LIGHTS

Subtly sliding their demo into producer and Speedy Wunderground boss Dan Carey's inbox about month or 2 ago, London-based outfit Pynch have now shared the product of that faithful email. With the bar set high by the innovative record label's back catalogue (including our recent-ish List Picks by the likes of Lazarus Kane, Sinead O'Brien and Tiña) 'Disco Lights' doesn't disappoint. Propelled by a sharp, motorik beat, distinguished, as ever, by Carey's signature snappy snare sound, driven bass guitar, distant guitar strums and crystalline synth lines ebb and flow beneath a dizzying repeated vocal melody. Admittedly taking inspiration by Justice's iconic 'We Are Your Friends', which the band describe as having a "non-stop chorus", 'Disco Lights' is a cyclical slow-jam that shines with a confidence that's rare. -Holly Mullineaux
